and the new purple dress

Yesterday, I cut out the new purple dress from the pieces of the old.  This should tell you how long the dress was because I was able to cut out everything but the sleeves from the skirt.  No more tripping over my hem or having my shoes come untied!  Or tripping up the stairs while holding Small Mister's hand.

Less then two hours later, the dress was finished and five nine square quilt squares were finished.  I always make quilt squares when I am sewing something else.  I can make five with this dress style.  

I wore this to work today and I would have to say it was a very good shape for the fabric.  I like wearing tights due to bruises and it did not cling to my tights.  The skirt is just the right width.

One more refurbishement to go.

I know I posted this purple dress when I made it over a year ago.  Yes, I like it but....  But I do not really like long sleeves on a dress because I wear sweaters.  Three quarters or short sleeves work better for me.  It is  a bit long.  I trip on it.  I made it with an attached underskirt and it is really just much to heavy too many months of the year to wear here.  But I still really like the fabric.

While we were watching snow boarding and surfing videos this evening, I cut it apart.  The skirt and the sleeves have enough fabric to make an a-line sleeved dress.  It means I do not have to go shopping or spend anymore money on fabric.  It is so cool!

A new purple dress will be cut out tomorrow.  I am excited!

ouch!

I wanted to play with seeds this evening after running errands with my Beloved and eating.  But I went to pull the first weed and my shoulders protested something fierce.  More healing before I can garden.  My flower and vegetable seeds are going in a bit late.

But I finished a simple dress.  This is the slow dress from yesterday.  I worked on it in little bits and it got done.  I am thinking I will wear it to work tomorrow just because I can.  It is really not better then planting seeds or drooling over snow boards, but it is still a place of balance and peace at the sewing machine. 

Maybe I will get more stitched tomorrow.

dresses that make me feel elegant

This weekend got all topsy turvy.  We thought we were going to have Small Mister but then did not. We did not have enough notice to make plans.  So I made plans for two weeks out.  We are going camping two weeks out.  Just cause.  Someplace I have never taken my Beloved but talked about.  And the campsite for the week is the same price as a New Orleans hotel during the weeks preceding Mardi Gras for a night!

Desert here we come!

Without help, I got two dresses made.  A-line again with sleeves and they make me feel elegant.  Little cotton dresses that cost as much as dinner tonight with tip if I were to buy online.

I actually had help with this one.  I am loving the A-line dresses a lot.  They move so well for ever aspect of life.

I have continued to sew for myself this month.  Today was actually the first day that I tried to quilt on the machine.  Right now my separated shoulder is screaming.  I am looking forward to a nice soak in a bit.  But, because I have not been able to finish one of the quilts that is in progress, I made another pinnie.  There have actually be more then a few dresses but many look the same unless you know what to look for.

The white was an apron that was much too heavy to where here except for a few days a year.  It is a hemp linen and the first apron I made with it was actually double layered.  There is a matching piece of green waiting.  Then, I tried another apron design.  Did not work.  So the cut apart apron has been sitting.  But with a bit of stitching and the addition of a tannish green bit of linen, it became a pinnie.

As you can tell, I am very hard on white aprons.  They become so stained so quickly.  I could actually do what I have read one woman does.  White aprons and head covering only for baking.  I am not quite that organized.  I will just enjoy this until I feel it needs to go into the rag pile.  In another words, wearing it to the hardware store is a bad idea.
