spinning

It was a quiet eventful day.  I went to a friend's son's middle school play this evening.  Mr. T. did a fabulous job as Scott in Dear Edwina Junior.  It was a musical and a comedy.  It was much better then I expected from that age group and there was a lot of laughter.

Between the library and play, I took some time for myself and sat down with my spinning wheel.  I put on an audiobook and spun.  It is amazing how fast two ounces of fiber spins when you are just enjoying yourself.  I also think I will put a book on while I weave.  The library is my friend.  I have ideas for this yarn but lets see if that actually happens before I make any statements.  I still have about fourteen ounces of fiber to spin and nine discs for the audiobook.  A strangely quiet heaven.

learning

I have lots of things to share from our long weekend.  We did not do anything traditionally and I had the time to try recipes.  I am so thankful for my family.  But they both worked most of the weekend.  I took myself off to the Homestead Fair in Waco for the day.

I have never been able to use a drop spindle.  I just use a spinning wheel.  But guess what?  After a patient lady sat with me, I can do it!  See!!!!!

I did that!!!  I am so excited and now I can take spinning with me anywhere.  The patient lady's twenty year old son made this spindle and I bought it at the fair.  I took it to work with me and spun during lunch in the coffee bar.  That means my heavily male dominant workmates asked all types of questions.  Some knew what I was doing, others did not.  This is a good lunch time activity for me.  It helps lessen the stress of work and I am productive.

Big smiles!  Now, can I get enough yarn spun for Christmas presents?

in the quiet moments of my day

This week has been busy.  It was not just the week we came back from vacation but it also has just been busy!  We had a banquet to go to, friends that we have not seen in a long time to see, a wedding to go to, and we are giving a party tomorrow.  The party is a cookie decorating party and hopefully I will have pictures.

In the spare moments of my time at home, I continue to spin.  Will this become a hat or a shawl?  Maybe both?  Opinions?  I have a whole pound of fiber and I love it.

On Russell's day off, what does he do?  He goes and cuts down a tree and then mills it.  I cannot seem to find those pictures (he took them with his phone) but this process relaxes him.  He also got more work done on the roof of the Teahouse.  Huzzah!

another step of balance

I find that when I am depressed or out of sorts, one of the things that seems to help the most is spinning.  I am not talking figure skating, which I do as well.  I am talking about making yarn.

On vacation, I bought this roving.  It has grays, blacks, and white.  It is a merino wool and silk mix.

I started spinning this evening.  With a glass of JK Scrumfeys near by (a type of hard apple cider).  I spent all day at work wishing I was home spinning.

It is very soothing.  I am not the best spinner in the world, most due to lack of time to practice, but it gives me a lot of pleasure.  I find that it soothes.

I find that this fiber is not quite as soothing as the merino/silk.  It is flax (linen).  It is a trip.  Again, I need more practice.

And what is my Wolf doing while I spin?  He is sharpening chain saw blades!  Welcome to my life (smile).
