quiet after the trip

I have been feeling very quiet after the time on the mountain.  I am having a hard time adjusting to Houston even though are good things in my life like new glasses and a lovely lunch with a friend.  With the quiet,  I have been spending most evenings with my spinning wheel and a bag of fiber.  I am making yarn for a sweater I have started my Beloved.  It is a good use of my time while I am being quiet.

I also am practicing with my drop spindle.  I have a feeling that yarn will end up in a shawl.

fiber tool junky

In the Fairhaven neighborhood of Bellingham, there is this little art gallery of wooden things.  The lady behind the counter was knitting and I just had to ask her what she was making.  I am such a fiber junky.  It was sweater but she had this lovely yarn bowl that was holding her yarn.  I have seen yarn bowls before but they are usually pottery.  With me being a klutz and the Small Mister who wonders the house, no matter how beautiful, I could not justify a pottery yarn bowl.  This wooden bowl is fabulous.  My balls of yarn no longer wonder the room as I crochet.

They also had beautiful handmade Turkish drop spindles.  I walked away with two.  Both are small enough to put in a bag or backpack.  I had thought about bringing a drop spindle to the land with us but my favorites are just a bit big and then there is the fiber issue.  I have to admit that I had wished I brought fiber when these two lovelies came home with us.  But that enabler behind the counter sent fiber as padding with us

But did I use it as padding.  OH NO!  I spun in our woods.  After my work day today, I wish I was spinning in the woods now.  Or maybe digging the garden patch for next spring.  I felt like I kept stirring up bees.

I actually need to card more fiber.  I am spinning yarn for a sweater for my Beloved and I keep back a little bit to spin lace yarn on this little drop spindle for a shawl for me.  Maybe I should make socks.  I just need the drop spindle practice.

not enough hours in my weekend

There have not been enough hour in my weekend.  I had errands to run on Saturday, which always takes much more time then I would expect.  But I got them done and I got to the grocery store.  I have been trying new recipes this weekend which have already been requested to be in our life more.

Small Mister asked to help with carding this week so one of the tasks I wanted to do was spin and card more.  Which I did.  My Beloved and I watched British television on the internet while I spun yarn for either his sweater or mine.  He picked out a sweater pattern so I am now spinning the yarn for it.  This fiber on the carder is the base of his sweater.

Small Mister will get to help me spin and card more fiber.  I think we have him tonight and he loves to help.  He actually pulled his own print on the letterpress yesterday.  He had to show everyone!

We will also probably be going to the hardware store.  It is one of his most favorite places and I would have to agree.  I have dimensions for the worktable I need to build for my letterpress.  I made a decision and now I just have to make it happen.  I like this table I have decided on well enough to think about building new kitchen counters and shelves.  It would make me happy and I would get new tools.

All these bits and bobs are why there are not enough hours in the weekend.  Because I got some gardening, printing, and sewing in as well.  Just not enough of any.

quiet saturday

It has been a quiet day today.  Small Mister and myself ran errands this morning.  We now have six dozen eggs for travels.  And a complete tent that can sleep six people.  I had to go to three stores to pick up all the pieces.  There is another tent of that same size that I like.  If we need another, I may put that on my list.  We are going up to the land and I can see when we have family visit where two tents and the trailer will be needed.  I heard that there was talks of Sasquatch hunting going on.  The boys make me smile.  What else are you supposed to do in the woods but hunt Sasquatch?  I am working on making sure I have anough yarn which means that I card and spin some each day.  Not very exciting but it needs to be done.

I made sure I had some flowers for myself though.  Soon, I will be planting peonies on the mountain.  I cannot wait!  The deer will love me I know.  They like the sweetness.  But that is life with wildlife.

yarn

On Saturday morning, Small Mister walked in and asked to spin.  So we spun yarn.  I feel like my spinning is getting better.  I find taking more time carding, making sure that there is not knots of fiber, makes the yarn smoother and the spinning faster.  I have started a sweater with the grey yarn and have a sweater planned for the tan yarn.  I just need to card and spin.  Since this is something my small helper can actually help with, I can see more of it in my future.
