one done, two to go

I got a little work done in my garden this weekend.  I was able to pick a few flowers and they are brightening my kitchen now.  I have missed flowers in the house and in the garden.

I go the biggest bed of my garden dug.  There are two more beds still to be dug.  Blanket flowers and peppers got moved and replanted.  I have a broccoli that weathered the winter and almost ready to pick.  I saved a carrot that was flowering just because I liked the flowers so much.  I really am a flower junky.

And a seed junky.  I planted vegetables and flowers.  Broadcasting all over the bed.  But it has rained so hard for the last twenty four hours I wonder if there are any seeds left or if they are too deep because of how hard it rained.  I have more seeds to plant so I may broadcast again once the flash flood warnings are over and the hard rains recede.

Flowers and vegetables with more flower seeds ordered.  Yes, flower junky.

tomatoes in January

I am still digging up my garden.  I dug for four days last week and took a break for three.  I am back at it today.  It is one of those activities where I wonder why anyone would go to them gym when they have a garden to dig in.  Of course, I do use a shovel and nothing with a power source.  All human powered.

With my digging, I have tried to save a few plants.  I have a carrot going to seed that is just lovely.  I like the flowers.  There is one broccoli that made it through the summer and is about to have flowers to eat.  The mint patch had to be saved for mojitos and I transplanted some to make the patch bigger.  I have blanket flowers coming up that I will move through out the beds so I have more color more places.

Then there are my two tomato plants that have made it through the winter so far.  They both have tomatoes on them.  These pictured I picked up off the ground so I can let them ripen on the window sill.  I like tomatoes cooked in things or chopped very fine when they are raw.  These may just make the boyos very happy.  Part of the happy is they know they are going to be able to snack out of the garden soon.  Many times, vegetables do not make it into they kitchen.  They make it no farther then being sun warmed and eaten with dirt still clinging to them.

my holiday weekend

My holiday weekend has had me spending a lot of time in the garden once I got the have tos done.  There are always too many errands on a Saturday that have to be accomplished before I can start on other things.  I got to try out my new garden fork.  My other one needs repair and I purchased an angle grinder for my Beloved so he can fix my tools.  I know he will use it for his business but the main thing is that I wish to repair my tools and not have to buy new.  Though, having two garden forks is really nice.  Especially if I am having a bit of help.

While I was buying groceries, I bought myself some flowers and a lavender plant.  I have not had luck with lavender in the past but since the mint is still going strong, I decided to give it a try.

I did bend one of my Japanese garden knifes in the process.  This picture was taken after my Beloved pounded on hit.  Hammer and anvil are nice but we are both aware that the blade will continue to bend as I use it.  I am thinking about putting a garden knife made by my Beloved on my wish list.  I have a knife wish list and this just another style of knife!

Last year, we had plenty of vegetables in the garden but not so many flowers.

I needed more flowers.  They are so pretty.  My garden is very wild with flowers and vegetables.  My neighbors probably hate me.  But it makes me smile and gives me peace.  I am always welcome to share my bounty with my neighbors.

Sunday morning

Sunday morning I woke up with a very little bit of shoulder pain.  Since I have chronic pain, my little bit of pain might different then yours but I was able to spend time in the garden.  Not just a few minutes.  Not just a time half hour.  I turned off the timer and worked in the garden until I felt like it was time to go in.  A hour and a half.  I have not been able to do that all year so far.  I was able to clear the side walk of all the over hanging flowers.  I got more seeds spread and more weeds dug out.  It felt so good.

I cut a few flowers and brought them into the kitchen.  I put them above the sink and look at them while I do dishes.  I enjoy them so.

quiet Saturday

I picked flowers this morning and dug another bed.  Planted more flower and vegetable seeds.  I needed this badly. It has been one of those weeks where work was a place to laugh because it either was so frustrating or made me so angry with stupidity that I wished to cry.  I need to figure out how to have enough energy at the end of the day to spend more time in the garden.  It is good for my head.

I have been working on my letters.  I need more vellum.

Croissants are raising in the refrigerator.  I have one more fold I think before I shape and bake.  This is exciting and I am really like just being slow with them.  I actually need to start bread again today.  I ran out yesterday.

I am hoping this weekend will be healing.  My shoulders are much better but there is still a lot of healing that needs to go on.  I would like to be able to do yoga without pain again.  I have stopped until I can.  I may test it this weekend.
