from the garden

I spent some time in my garden on Saturday before the mossies drove me in.  I am continuously itching from bites.  The cherry tomatoes are ripening though.  The kale is tall and the mint is taking over the world.

But the best is that I have flowers.  The zinnias are blooming.

And they look so pretty in my kitchen.  They kept me company during all my baking this weekend.

I did have a flower plan which appears to keep getting changed do to boyos.  Currently, two different boyos have weed wacked down two different patches of flowers.  Flowers that have not bloomed yet so how can they tell that there are flowers there?  Even when I have told them.  At this point I feel like I am owed large bouquets of flowers later in the season due to how many they have wacked.

Like that will happen!

my first zinnias this year

Before I left for gallivanting, my first zinnias bloomed.  They are so pretty.  There are more now and I will cut another bouquet soon.

I need to spend time in the garden because it has become a jungle.  It rained so much while I was gone that the mint stands waist high.  I ate salad from the garden tonight and it was a bit leggy due to the heat and amount of water.  It did taste good.  I like a simple salad.

I need to spend morning this weekend pulling weeds.  But I am actually hoping for surf.  Or if not surf, time at the beach.  It is not like the Oregon coast.  The Gulf is just not but it soothes similarly.

Coming back to work was interesting.  I had people wait for me to come back to make requests.  I am not imagining because I was told this was the path taken.  So after dealing with a interestingly busy day.  Fun in some ways.

I have spent the evening spinning and crocheting, watching Call of the Midwife.  Hoping a bit for good sleep and surf.  Should have taken my boards, surf and skateboard, all long boards.  There were many people at the campground, dirt bags, with both.  I would have been even more relaxed.  But that is life.

quiet morning

It has been a quiet morning of carding fiber.  I have been spinning a bit each day.  I have a sweater I wish to make but I need the yarn.  Actually, I need to work with a bit of carding and spinning every day because I have so much fiber but the sweater is a nice piece of lagniappe.  I enjoy the spinning, especially in my current work environment.  Lots of change.  Possibility of layoffs.  Basic life.

I clipped a few flowers today.  I have not dug in a bed again but maybe tomorrow.  The vegetables are coming up well and soon my salads will be made with my home grown greens.  So exciting!

in the garden today

It has been a creative week this week but not an excitingly creative week.  I have wanted to spin and I have.  I am about to start a sweater I want because I have  a bit of yarn of the type I want for the sweater.  But not enough because I am still spinning!

There was a little stitching going on as well.  But I did not get anything finished.  Maybe today?  Maybe not.

I spent time in my garden this morning.  The rains have stopped and the ground has dried up enough that I do not sink to my knees in mud.  It does not help that my much boots are on the mountain.

Because of the flower junkie I am, I ordered more seeds.  They need a place to go.  The plan is to do some more digging tomorrow and plant seeds.  Not very exciting but joyful!

From my garden.  They do make me smile so!

quiet weekend

It was a very rainy weekend here.  Flooding actually.  It meant I did not go much farther then my rocking chair or the kitchen.  After all my sewing last week, I really did not feel like working on my sewing machine, spinning, or working with my crochet hook.  By the end of the weekend though, I started thinking about it.  Pondering.

I did pick flowers.  I am a flower junky like I have said before and I decided to do the #SeasonalFlowerAlliance that Floret Farms instigates on Instagram.  The goal is to take pictures of the flowers you pick locally and put into some type of a bouquet.  I actually have an Instagram account to do this now:  @elibjerklie .   I will take pictures of what I pick from my yarn and enjoy everyone else's.  More flowers!

I did have to share this picture though.  I laughed at myself because this is a quiet weekend in my kitchen!
