my weekend

Miss A, my Beloved, and myself went to the Austin Maker's Fair this weekend.  I was not disappointed because it was as I expected but not as good as I hoped.  I learned some things about building a travel trailer that were very cool.  I watched a paper making demonstration that did not use authentic tools so the process was streamlined.  I talked to a wood block printer.  Something I want to do but have not made the time to do it.  Part of that is I have not drawn something I like well enough to print.

My Beloved and myself did our first bit of primitive camping.  I have not primitive camped in much too long.  This was only a mile walk into the site and there was an outhouse.  The only reason that you might have wanted to call it a hike would be because as soon as you put that backpack on it becomes harder then just a mer walk.  The setup for a hike in is better then it was but it still not perfect.  I lost some skin on a shoulder and there are a few aches and pains.

But can I say this?  I liked the primitive site.  You are not as on top of each other as in the regular campground.  And the regular campground is much better then a KOA.  There can be no open flame at this state park but it was not December or January so a fire was not a necessity.  I really enjoyed myself.  I might actually chose to stay there more often.

The conclusion from my weekend.  Not much inspiration but a nice change of pace.  Most of what I am working on is long projects so I will have to see what I have to say this week.  The destruction sweater is about ten inches long.  My hands are a little tired.  It is always so hard to come back from the "woods."

one step closer!

The back for the quilt I am working on is done!  Wahoo!

Today has been doing little things but soon I will start basting.  I am going to spin some because I do need yarn.  There is always more fibre to make more yarn.  Even though I have roving coming to me, I think the grey I showed two days ago is going into sweater.  And I am thinking the other roving I showed, may go into a cardigan that I have been trying to decide what yarn will be the contrast.  Nothing I have spun works with that sweater when I think about it.  I rarely even find anything I like to buy recently.

I find spinning relaxing and I admit to being in a funk.  Miss Koda Bear and the Tall Short Person.  Miss the Pacific Northwest.  My ear is still infected and hurts.  Want to go surfing but there is no surf or when there is surf it is accompanied by thunderstorms.  Nope.  And yes, we are still getting rain and the potential for flooding.

I did take a bit of time and took my Long Rodriguez skateboard out.  It helped.  Concrete surfing is not quite the same, but it helps.  It does mean that I have been watching a few skateboard and surfing videos.  I do have a skateboard in a shopping cart that I am pondering.  I actually found a short board I like.  A little bigger then a Penny (type of skateboard).  But that has more to do with me seeing myself taking it with me traveling.  I keep thinking I need a duffle for a skateboard, helmet, and gloves.  Grandma Sally's house has a good hill for skating!

The thought crossed my mind that  I need to post a sign in the yard that reads:  Drive like your daughter/momma/grandmomma lives here.

making decisions about yarn

I actually shipped a box of fabric and fibre home from my travels that have not arrived yet.  But I did bring a bit of yarn and fiber home in my backpack.  I am trying to decide if this roving will go with the dark grey that I am currently spinning.  There is a sweater I wish to make that is two tone.  Or should I wait for the yellow fibre that I bought.  I think I will have to make them both up as a yarn to decide.

I feel better today then yesterday but I have to admit that my ear still hurts.  I took it slower today and maybe that will help the healing.  It is warm here and I realize I do really enjoy walking in cooler weather.  But that is not a choice.  At least not right now.  Maybe soon.

Not many words today.  I am hoping the back of the quilt will be done tomorrow.  Maybe if I take it slow and heal some more, that bit of sewing will happen.

makings for a cozy quilt

Today has been an interesting day.  The area has had more rain in a morning then ever recorded for a day.  There are areas that got they monthly rainfall per hour over an eight hour period.  People are complaining about the flooding but it is better then it has been in the past with less water.  There is still damage.  People lost homes.  Lost cars.  People died.  There were rescues.  But we did get through.

I walked to work and home.  I decided that I would take less risk on foot then on my bicycle.  I waited until the lightening lessened to start.  It was not a bad walk and I got to work damp.  Work was not closed but there were very few people who were able to get in.  The rain stopped by the time I started home but I still used my umbrella because I had forgotten my sunglasses.  People were out watching the water rushing through the bayous on my path home.  I just wanted to be home.

Home was about a comforting soup and tea.  Sometimes cozy is needed.  The Tall Short Person asked for a cozy quilt recently.  So while we were out watching very fast motorbikes, I stopped a different fabric shop in a different town which means different buyers.  I have always found the buyers for this shop much edgier which is going make a fun cozy quilt for her.  I know I bought too much but that is how it goes.  It was all her favorite colours!

The yarn is what I spun on the hill watching fast motorbikes.  I had to document it, did I not?

Possibility of three more inches of rain tonight and tomorrow.  It will be mostly okay.

twists and turns

I did not know what to title this post.  I laid out a quilt and that went well.  But the brownie experiment did not.  It tasted lovely but it was a true failure.  Though I did get reminded that I make a pretty good chocolate peanut butter smoothie when I have that chocolate shake craving.  And the inflammation does not increase with it.

I misplaced my threading hook for my spinning wheel.  When I was going to spoil myself this weekend with some spinning, I could not get the yarn threaded to start.  But my hands and eyes were already done from a day a the sewing machine.  It was probably for the best.

I have not finished the binding on two quilts yet.  The Market is this weekend and I hope to have two more quilts finished.  Friday and Saturday morning I can sit in my rocking chair and sit.  Maybe tomorrow night too.  I was going to do some stitching this evening but a friend needed a distraction so we went to a movie.  The laughter was great and it took her mind off whether she got a new job or not.

Just a lot of twists and turns.  Maybe some of those twists and turns will smooth out.  Maybe not.  It is like the Chinese curse, may you life in interesting times.  These are.
