macqueen for the koda bear

I am just getting around to making pajama pants for Koda Bear.  They were part of what was supposed to be done for Christmas that did not happen.  But the boy did not seem to mind waiting.

I used a pattern from a Japanese kids pattern book.  I do not know if I did not read the pattern close enough or not but I was very glad that I have put together pajama pants before and have been asked to modify pajama pants as well.  What I read and what I put together did not seem to match.

But the end product?  Koda Bear liked very much.  He did not wish a picture taken or to take them off.  So this wiggly bottom is of him hiding.

I bought a bit of extra fabric to make Koda Bear a pillowcase but he wanted a blankey.  That was an easy sew.

But the yardage given by the pattern was so off that I actually have enough extra fabric that I am making him another pair of pajama pants.  I am making the back pockets a little bit bigger and I am cutting extra fabric for the waistband from the beginning instead of realizing half way through that I needed to cut it.  After the last year's pajamas, I am using elastic instead of draw string.  It is working well.  He likes matching his Grandpa.

Maybe next year they will both have Darth Vader pajamas.

a housewarming present

Friday and Saturday last week, I got a little bit of time at my sewing machine.  I went through my stash and found muslin and a blue to make a gift.  I have a friend who was having a housewarming to show off her new home.  She said not to bring gifts but I could not resist.

A pinnie was quickly stitched together and wrapped up.  Her house is lovely for her.  And now she has something to bake in or entertain in.  I find light colored pinnies do not stay nice looking very long but it is from the stash so she should not worry.

I still have not figured out how to get my sewing machine in a trailer.  May need to be my "portable" one.  I have decided my spinning wheel needs to go but it tucks up small.  The letterpress does not.

getting more Christmas presents done

It is February and I am done with Christmas presents except for the boyos.  They do not seem to mind at all.  I finished the last pinnie today.  I had two requested.  I made both out of black linen because the comment was made by both parties that white just gets dirty too fast!  I do so agree.  My white aprons are very stained even with the liberal application of bleach.  But then I have also stained dresses through aprons which tells you that I am extremely talented when it comes to getting dirty.

I did not get a good picture of the pinnies before I sent them off.  What I thought looked good really did not.  But I did spend a lot of time with this view.

I have another pinnie to make for a house warming gift.  There is another request for a silk pillowcase.  And then there are pajama pants for the boyos.  Especially since Koda bear seeems to be growing!  This next three weeks my sewing machine is in the "guest" room.  It is where the spare bed is.  So there may be more spinning and crocheting going on.  A different type of sanity.

I have been researching round trip airline tickets for my best friend.  Last week she thought she might have to go to Istanbul because her Grandmother was very ill.  Grandmother got better and started proposing she needed to rent out her apartment and move into the hospital because it was so nice.  This week, my best friend found out her Father has a brian tumor.  It is all she knows right now and will find out more this week after more testing.  She may be flying to Florida to be with her Father and I am making sure she gets there.  Prayers for her Father would be lovely.

quiet

I took a quiet day today.  I have been digging garden every day after work.  I have not spent the time at my sewing machine I would like but you know what?  I have enough squares for another quilt.  I need to finish the binding on the last quilt I put together.  Christmas gifts got in the way of finishing.  Soon, I promise myself.  Soon.

I have burr spines in my leg.  I did not notice the burrs as I have been digging but they are there.  A bit ouchy they are.

another variation

I made another woven t-shirt as a gift.  It will actually be gifted next week or the week after.  I am still working on gifts and have not gotten things sent out like I should.  I am moving slowly.

The request was for long sleeves so that was how I changed it.  It turned out well now I will see if it is liked.

I am thinking about making myself one.  Three quarter sleeves though to facilitate bread baking.  Especially when the rambunctious Koda Bear (what Small Mister is now calling himself) is helping.  Punching bread dough is the only approved punching in the house, especially by anyone called Bear.

I will get to the post office soon!
