more lace

My slow sewing project last week was this lace kimono.  I am still playing with lace.  I have one more bit of black lace left to make a slip with.  There are bits and pieces that may end up being little things I wish to try making.  I am really tired of clothes shopping.  Especially the little bits.

I am really like this lace pattern.  I am going to miss working with it.  I have a piece of plum lace next to work with but I have a few dresses and shirts to make.  There was a piece of lace I left at the store in a grey sage that I may pick up for myself as well.

Yes, I am the person who would wear a lace nightgown in a tent.  That is me.

and yesterday it was silk

Yesterday, instead of lace I played with silk.  I had some of the light pink silk satin leftover and a cream silk satin which I had bought for myself when I was buying all the silk for pillowcases that were gifts at Christmas.  I was thinking a slip but i chose to use as much of the silk as I could.

A long slip?  A short nightie?  I know it is lovely and soft.  I am enjoying the 1930's inpsired shape.  I am a button person instead of a hook person so buttons go on both sides.

I have a kimono style robe laid out on lace that is going to be pretty over this.  Not warm but elegant and pretty.

There has not been much new cooking going on but I am tweaking.  If you use my recipes do not be surprised if I have gone back and added tweaks.  I am trying to do it all as notes but I may forget or it may work better in the recipe.  I have a friend who reads and uses my recipes who says he is not surprised!  He goes back and checks on occasionally.

I have to update the fajita recipe tonight.  I have been putting lunch/dinner food together for the boyos and I made a fajita marinade that has a mole bent.  They liked it so I cannot forget what I put in it.  Time to write it down!

interesting story with this dress

I had a wedding to go to on Saturday night.  7:00 pm.  I decided to make a dress for it.

I started cutting out the dress at 1:45 pm on Saturday.  I got it cut out and then there was a trip to Home Depot.  I got back and started stitching.

Now, I would never recommend this fabric to anyone.  There is absolutely no give.  It made all the hems very interesting to sew.  The varying thickness due to the embroidery made it difficult to sew.  It was just a painful fabric to work with.  I also did not have quite as much as I would have liked to make the length I like most.  A little short but good.

The dress was finished at 4:20 pm.  Simple a-line with sleeves.  Plenty of time to clean up and get to the wedding.

The funny story happened at the wedding reception.  I was in the buffet line and one of the staff complimented me on my dress.  When I told him I made it, he told me I should start a business because it was such a complimentary shape for so many bodies.  The staff member next to him kept nodding her head.  I just wandered how many bad dresses they see!

"going walkabout?"

When I bought the flannel for Christmas present this year, I came across a piece of black and red flannel that I wanted.  I bought everything on the bolt.  This last week, I pulled out my old Simplicity pattern and made myself a dress.

There had been a linen dress on pinterest that I liked the look of and modeled this dress after that.

First, I made the dress the length of the pattern.  I am tired of tripping over my hems and having my dress untie my shoes.  I do not tie my shoes well anyhow but a dress hem rubbing against the laces has a tendency to untie them as well.  I could pick up a Koda Bear in this dress and climb a flight of stairs without worrying about catching my hem.  I do that too currently.

Secondly, I changed the sleeve and added a cuff.  Thirdly, I took the buttons off the bodice and made it one piece.

This dress is so comfy!  I put a hat on to walk to the grocery store this afternoon, I got asked if I was going a walkabout.  With my hat, it is a valid question!  I would not mind a few more of these dresses in flannel and if I could also find a gauzy linen that would be cool.

decisions

Koda Bear now has matching pajama pants to Poppa Bear.  I missed the whole conversation about the broken four on the orange dirt bike because I was at work but they will match.  They seem to do that anyhow.  Match of interests.

I am going to a wedding on Saturday.  I am trying to decide which fabric will become the dress to wear.  Or maybe, by Saturday evening, it will be more of which dress will I wear.  I listened to an audible book as I was sewing this afternoon and there is a dress almost done.  I do think I will have two to chose from.  The silk will be a-line with sleeves.  The red and black check will be more of frontier dress but with long sleeves and cuffs.  There will be no buttons down the front.  The buttons and button holes will end up taking the longest of all the work.  I could not find a plus one who wanted to go with me to this wedding so I am off by myself.

It works.
