quiet evening

Part of this weekend was finding a fabric store I liked.  I think one of the largest draws for us to go back is that they have a bowl called button soup where you can dig through the bowl and take purchase any of the buttons you like for twenty cents.  My Beloved plopped himself right down and found 31 wooden buttons he liked.   It is better then him going around the fabric store and touching fabric.  The ones he likes usually run $300 a yard.  He says he is not allowed to touch fabric anymore!  The man does make me laugh.

It is a good thing he found buttons he liked because I am working on another fuzzy shirt for him that will need buttons.  And he likes the idea of the kilt I am working on for him have wooden buttons instead of snaps.  There are also three more shirts cut out.  None of them are work shirts so they can all have wooden buttons.  The idea will be to mix and match them.

I have been having quiet evenings lately because I am the only one home.  I am trying to perfect a chocolate swirl bread or a chocolate roll.  I think it works better as a roll.  When I am pleased with the recipe, I will share.

another christmas present, really

My best friend saw pictures of the red dress that I made myself this autumn and said she would like one for a Christmas present.  And in brown which matches another dress I made myself which I have blogged about.

It is done!

And wrapped.  Now I just have two more presents to make.  Yes, really!

happy dress

It was a quiet day.  Both at work and at home.  Home was not as quiet as work though.  I went to the library.  I wove.  That is coming along nicely.  I am waiting for an audiobook that I wish to weave to.  I find the background noise is quiet nice.  I made myself a simple dinner since my Beloved was at work.

And I finished a dress.  This dress has been waiting for buttons and buttonholes for almost two weeks now.  It is one of my favorite styles.  My family calls this a frontier dress but it is a bit more fitted then what was first called the frontier dress.  It is a very old Simplicity pattern.  But I have changed the sleeve and length.  I have made the bodice more fitted.  I have also added a collar from my Beloved's frontier shirt.  The best part truly is that it goes to my ankles if not toes.  I love that length.  It will be lovely to wear tomorrow.

baby hats and madness of flannel.....

This is the last of the baby gift for the Tall Short Person's friend.  Two baby hats.  They are a silvery green and a silvery blue.  The blue is smaller then the green and both are made of cotton.  It was actually what I was doing last night instead of blogging.  My Beloved had to close the store so I sat and watched a picture show after the library and crocheted.  Sometimes that is just what you have to do.

I have also been doing a bit of weaving after work.  With where my loom sits, it is much easier to weave when the sun is out.  We have had a few rainy days and it has been hard.

I did go a little mad at the fabric store when it came to flannel.  It was $1.99 a yard.  I will show you what I make of it as I go.  My Beloved already helped me start cutting it out.  Two hands do really make the work go faster.  Or maybe it is the laughter.  We do so like to laugh.

Please keep the people of Japan and all others who have been affected by the earthquake and tsunami in your prayers.

soft shirt

My Beloved requested a Lady made soft shirt.  I went through my stash and found a couple pieces of very soft flannel.  The one in the picture is his first choice.  It is a very tiny brown plaid, almost square pattern.  It is his favorite color clothes currently brown.

I laid it all out on my worktable and got to pinning.  And then to cutting (I really like my worktable.  It make the cutting go much faster).

Then there was more pinning and stitching.  Tonight I got the buttons and the buttonholes done.

And my Beloved has a soft shirt.  There is another piece of fabric that is going to be made up as well.  Maybe I can steal it when I am not feeling well!
