baby sling

The Tall Short Person had a friend who had a son this weekend.  The babe is wee!  So I asked my Tall Short Person if she would like me to make her friend a baby sling or a hat.  She said both.  So I started with the sling.  I used the directions from Amanda Blake Soule's book Handmade Home. The young lady is of a height that I chose to cut the fabric 56 inches by 22 inches.  I hemmed both sides.

I folded the fabric in half longwise.  I then measured in 4 inches on the non-folded edge.

I cut a curve on that edge and then french seamed it.

That is all there is too it.  I was amazed at how simple this was to make.  Hopefully, the new momma will be pleased.  I still have a hat to make!

baby quilt is pieced

The baby quilt that I have been working on is pieced!  It actually did not turn out the way I laid it out but I think I actually like it better.  It does mean that I will need to start piecing more nine squares.  I find they are very meditative to sew and in a year I will have enough for a full size quilt.  Or other projects as I need them.

I have also been weaving a lot.  Lots of slow projects but that is what my life feels like it needs right now.  Grace.  Kindness. Peace.  Joy.  It is good.

quiet week

It has been a quiet week.  Between my being ill, my Beloved working many too many hours, and work just being busy, extra energy has been hard to find.  I find I work on the quiet things then.  Like nine squares.  I have a hundred done now.  I am making a baby quilt for a little boy due at the end of March.  The piecing of the squares is a good indication of where my energy was most of the week.

I am also making slow progress on my weaving.  It helps that the floor is not so cold.  But it is strange that the weather was in the mid twenties last week and today it was above seventy five.  It is just difficult to adjust too.  Weaving is also just the level of energy I have.  I sit until I need to move.  I will get to change colors again soon and that is always exciting.

We had another cookie decorating party this weekend.  The attendance was a little low but I have to admit that I think everyone had as much if not more fun.  It was a good group.  Something should have told me though that I was not myself when I was in bed after it by 8 pm and slept over twelve hours.  My Beloved came home from work after a closing shift and I roused myself enough to ask how is day was.  That was about it!  This is not normal.

For some odd reason, my work had decided to have a Valentine's Day pizza lunch with a white elephant giveaway.  

On Sunday, I found the energy to make a shopping bag from leftover scraps of two dresses.  Everyone at work should have recognized the fabrics but I figured nobody would.  If it is not computer related, most times things get missed.

I had a feeling the types of gifts were really not going to be me so I was going to try to get this back.  I would have been that selfish.  But instead, I was asleep in bed at home.  Able to keep water in at that point.

But I got to open a lovely package when I went to the library when I was much more human!  It did turn out very nicely.  And I did not have to scheme (smile).

buttons buttons everywhere

I made myself a new dress using a cotton satin.  I like the purplish grey blue.  It is a hard color to give a name to.  I used the 1914 pattern from Sense and Sensibility.  I really rather not use gathers, so I used pleats everywhere.  I also made the cuffs a tad larger and changed the neck finish.  I think the next time I might change the neckline a tad.

I like how the cuffs and sleeves turned out.

There are 15 buttons on the back and two hooks and eyes.  It is a bit difficult to button by myself.  My Beloved was out of town this morning and I got into it!  I did ask a lovely lady friend at work to check that I was all buttoned up.  Not that anyone could tell because I really needed to wear a sweater all day. 

I would make this again.  May change it a bit but what else is new!
