cut hair down!

The Small Mister asked his Mommy to "cut my hair down with scissors."  It has been getting in his eyes for awhile now.  For his birthday, I already made this hat so the timing is fabulous.  I went for a soft acrylic, both very soft and washable.  Aspects you have to look for for a pirate king fire ninja.  I was convinced to wait until we see him to gift this too him.  He is getting a few books if they can get to the post office through the blizzard, twenty two in fact.  I know, a little overboard but what can you do when he is three and Elephant and Piggie are available?

Arrgh, you scurvy dog!

fire starters

I can actually tell that my pile of scraps has gone down.  I cut quilt squares and organized large scraps after work today.  I am saving the scraps and putting them in egg cartons for fire starters.  I will soak them with melted paraffin soon.  I counted days and think I need at least four for Thanksgiving week.  That does not include camping over Christmas.  One of the main reasons I have to organize so is that I hate throwing fabric away and I want to use every bit.  This is a way!

cleaning up and reorganizing

I came from a family where there are piles.  As we get older, the piles seem to get smaller but there are piles.  I decided I needed to tackle my work table and organize it.  A lot of the organizing is actually going to be cutting quilt squares!  Not very creative but needed.  I have many fabric scraps that need to be dealt with.  I have pictures that need to be hung too.  But no idea where I should put them.

This is also not addressing the fiber pile.  It is huge!  One step at a time.

It is not going to be a very creative week but I hope it will be productive!

feeling lazy

The infused tequilas I made were enjoyed greatly.  The habanero never needs to happen again.  The coffee so far either.  We have not found the right combinations to go with it.  Everything else, definitely.  But it takes one to three weeks to infuse tequila and when the work day ends in the response "Say it's not so!," waiting is hard.

I started making simple syrups in some of our favorite combinations of infused tequila.  Ginger and blackberry is awfully good.  Blackberry and mint is wonderful too.  Ginger and grapefruit, hmmmm. . .

The simple syrups all start with 2 cups of sugar and 2 cups of water.  The blackberry and ginger uses 12 -16 ounces of blackberry and a piece of ginger the size of a large fist.  The blackberry and mint use the same amount of blackberry and two large handfuls of mint from the garden.  I have not gotten too the ginger and grapefruit syrup yet because grapefruit are not in season here yet.  In season grapefruit convinced me I like grapefruit.

Then, a portion of tequila, an equal portion of infused simple syrup.  Both of those poured over ice and enough soda water or fizzy wine to fill the last of the glass if you wish.  Need to wait less then an hour instead of three weeks.  Life is good.

You could also make sodas with each of those.  Flavored simple syrup, ice, and enough soda water to fill the glass.  Use enough flavored simple syrup so the soda is to your taste.  I find everyone is very different.

It has been an interesting week!

just carding away

I have spent a lot of time this week preparing fiber.  The fleece i washed?  I am carding and spinning it.  I am actually working on a bit of a few, some from Taos, some from North Carolina.  I am finding that changing which fleece I am working with lets me stay a little bit more focused.

Though, I think I would just like very large mugs of tea and quiet.  One of my co-workers today told me work gets in the way of my life.  Miss L is right!  Life is always interesting.

More carding and spinning going on tonight.  With tea and a bit of quilting going on.  I am seriously thinking of putting the soundtrack to 180 Degrees South on and just being mellow to it.  Boys are off on motorbikes and supposedly bringing me back a half a macaroon.  My bet is that it will be in little bits when it gets here!

Tea.  Fabric.  Fiber.  Maybe I will even leave the house for an onion and the purchase of makings for adult beverages.  I would actually bet against that currently!
