wrangling mattresses

I have been wrangling mattresses after work today and I am tired!  I have rub burns on my hands.  I had to clip my already short nails shorter because I tried to rip them off.

You have to realize that I did not feel well today.  I took a quart of ginger tea to work in a mason jar.  One of the men I work with who is from Angola was "Can I have some?!?!"  He never asks so I said yes.  My plan for after work today was to curl up in my rocking chair with my crochet hook and disappear into the sweater I am making again.  At this rate, I will be lucky to finish my tea and finish this post!

I did get more fleece washed.  I am rewashing the fleece I had washed before.  This time in smaller batches and with Unicorn Fiber Scour.  It has made a huge difference!  So much cleaner!  So much softer!  But still smells like sheep.

Up close with this very dark Corredale fleece I have, you can actually see different colors where you could not before.  I am hoping to get some carded so I can work with it on my drop spindle on the beach.  It may be a bit optimistic.

My gallivanting gets closer and closer and I am excited!

being very quiet

Our weather has been interesting and my flowers are bedraggled.  My vegetables and zinnias are doing very well.  But the mosquitoes are out in droves.  I am going to have to start drinking some tonic water every day again to help with welts.  I find when I drink tonic water the welts are just not as big.  It is the quinine.

I was very quiet this weekend.  The sweater I am working on grabbed me.  I really want it done for my gallivanting so I decided to work on it.  I watched Eureka and crocheted.  I find it is easier to work on the more intricate bits when it is something I have already seen before and can just follow the dialogue.

I am liking how this sweater is coming together and really cannot wait until I can try it on.  I am thinking about taking apart the sweater I made myself from Sunshine's fleece and making something more similar to this.  A sweater that just fits a bit better and is not quite so asymmetrical.  I did do it on purpose but I do not appreciate it as much in practice as I thought I did.  I like more the classical cardigan shape even if it is a bit big on me.

I got teased by a friend at work on Friday that yes, I get rid of clothes.  But I make them into something different and not give them away.  Or remake them so many times that they are no longer clothes.  I am thinking about that one for Sunshine.

I have a feeling it is a fiber week.  More on that later.  But, I am finishing some tea, trying to put my crochet hook down, and trying sleep.  Notice all the tryings?

and the boyos are off!

The boyos are off!  They hooked up the Suburban, loaded the car on a trailer, and left yesterday.  I admit that the whole week felt a bit like getting them prepared.  I did a lot of mending and cooking.  I got a text yesterday at lunch saying they were raring to go.  I was not surprised at all and told them such.  They were off!  I have gotten pictures from the road of them reheating food I made them.  They should be almost to Koda Bear soon.

I, on the other had, did normal things like go to work and clean.  I am reblocking a rug a made so the edges do not curl.  So much easier when there are not people around who wish to use the rug.  It is a grand yoga mat.

I did go out with co-workers last night but I would have been just as happy staying home and working on one of the sweaters I am making like tonight.  I do hermit well.

I am going to be spending time on this sweater because I would like it done for when I go gallivanting.  The reservation for a camp site is made on the Oregon coast.  Hoping to see my best friend.  Hoping to see other friends but it will completely depend on their schedule and how flexible timing can be.  I just want some time to walk a beach.  It will be much to cold really to put my toes in the ocean!

motoGP weekend

I spent the weekend on the hill at the Turn 1 in Austin, TX at the MotoGP races.  Grand Prix motorcycle racing.  Now, I will admit that the boyos in my life are the ones who really love it.  I go because to be supportive.  Sometimes I do the Kid Zone all weekend with Koda Bear so Poppa Bear can watch the races.  Koda Bear has enough in about ten minutes.

If there is no Koda Bear, I pull out my folding rocking chair, sit down with my crochet, and figure ou the physics of Turn 1.  COTA has the worst Turn 1 but as any type of physicist, you start playing lines in your head that involve velocity and acceleration.  It is a good thing my second language is calculus.  I do say a few prayers that there is no carnage on this turn.  Last year, in two classes, there was.

The weather was such that I was wishing that this sweater was finished instead of just getting started.  I ran out of yarn on the back and worked on a shawl next.  The sweater would have been a nice change from the sweatshirt that said biscuithead.  I do feel the need to make sourdough biscuits.  Maybe this weekend.

a bit of sewing

I have needed a lot of meditative activities.  There has not been a lot of energy so that means simple sewing and spinning.  Pillowcases are as about as simple as sewing gets.  I made another one.  New flannel.  It will fit in a tent nicely.

I cannot believe it is only Tuesday.  It has been such a week it really feels like it should be Friday.  Friday we will be watching motorcycles go round in circles.  I am going to be glad for the day off.  I think I need a longer day off and that makes me ponder.  New Orleans?  Beverly Beach on the Oregon Coast?  The mountain?  Just need some time off.

Tomorrow will be a good day.
